Introduction to Photography Course
Your key steps to learning and understanding essential camera techniques. 8 classroom and practical sessions comprising of 6x 2.5 hour classroom sessions and 2x 5 hour practical outdoor workshops.
This is an ideal course for all Traditional SLR film users as well as Digital DSLR users.
Price £365 per person

Step 1: Welcome & Induction
• Introduction to the course
• Setting up your camera, picture file sizes and types (Jpeg & RAW)
• Exploring camera scene modes, functions and settings
• Lenses; types and uses
• Understanding focussing techniques
• Downloading, storing and archiving images
Monday 11th September 2017
Session 2 19:00-21:30
Classroom Session
Step 2: Exposure; how to make a correctly exposed image
• Exposure explained – aperture & shutter speeds
• Camera metering choices
• The Photographic Triangle; Relationship between aperture, shutter speed and ISO
• Understanding aperture priority mode (Av function)
• Composition hints and tips; guidelines to think about

Session 3 19:00-21:30
Classroom Session
Step 3: Controlling Movement; Using Shutter Speeds
• Creating sharp images; what is camera shake?
• Understanding shutter priority mode (Tv/S function)
• Freezing the action; using fast shutter speeds
• Creating energy and showing movement; using slow shutter speeds
• Creative exposure using fast/slow shutter speeds
• Image stabilisation (modern cameras/lenses only)
• Camera support – using monopods / tripods

Step 4: Controlling Depth of Field - Going Manual
• What is depth of field?
• Selective and critical focussing

• Into Infinity; keeping everything in sharp focus
• Understanding manual settings (M function)

Step 5: Picture Composition & Working with Ambient Light
• Impact of lens choice; wide-angle, telephoto, standard lenses
• Using and breaking "rules" of composition
• Choice of viewpoint; what to leave out
• Balancing an image
• Visual framing techniques

• Making the most of ambient light
